Dog Vaccinations

 

Programs supporting regular vaccination of dogs have contributed both to the health of dogs and to the public health. In countries where routine rabies vaccination of dogs is practiced, for example, rabies in humans is reduced to a very rare event. Vaccinating your dog can lead to a longer, healthier life at little cost to you.

Rabies vaccinations are required by law

  • Canine Flu: Dog Influenza, respiratory infrection, highly contagious and very deadly.

  • 4-Way Leptospirosis: Vaccine for 4 Serovars (increase in disease)

  • DHL+PP: Distemper Parvo Combo

  • D (Distemper virus): causes respiratory and nervous system disease, #1 cause of death

  • H (Hepatitis virus): causes liver damage

  • Leptospirosis: Bacterial disease causesIdney and liver failure and blood in urine.  Very deadly, transmitted between humans and dogs.

  • Parafluenza Virus: Respiratory infection, hacking and coughing.

  • Parvo Virus: #2 cause of puppy death, vomiting, Diarrhea, bloody stools.

  • Bordetella: Bacteria that cause kennel cough

  • Lymes: Tick transmitted disease contagious to dogs and people

We recommend all Toy Breeds to be given a 1-inch strip of Nutrical Gel Supplement four times per day to prevent low blood glucose levels.  Toy Breeds are highly susceptible to hypoglycemia, which can result in low life expectancy.

Currently, there are geographically defined core vaccines and individually chosen non-core vaccine recommendations for cats.

  • FVRCP: Feline distemper combo

  • R (Rhinotracheitis-Herpes): viral respiratory infection

  • C (Calici Virus):causes respiratory infection

  • P (Panleukopenia (distemper)):  #1 cause of death in kittens and adult cats

  • C (Chlamydia): causes jaundice and respiratory infection. Required for boarding and hospitalization.

  • FELV (Feline Leukemia Virus): a highly contagious desease that may cause death.

  • FIV (Feline Immune Deficiency Virus): This is also a highly contagious disease that may cause death

It is recommended  for all Cats be tested for FIV, Leukemia and HWT.
